Zucci salons have been styling hair in Melbourne for over thirty five years. Sustainability is one of the core values of this family run business and the design of the salon was driven by the owners’ passion for a natural space and care for their customers.

Zucci have partnered with Sustainable Salons Australia and have a thorough recycling process for their products and discarded hair. All their products are made from naturally derived ingredients and are all 100% vegan/cruelty free.

Taking inspiration from wellness spaces such as spas, saunas and yoga studios, the new Zucci salon creates an environment for their customers to unwind and relax. A sense of nature welcomes you into the space with a central lush tree and the use of simple, non-toxic natural materials throughout, such as Australian timbers and blackened steel.

We worked closely with Ambience Lighting and the clients to achieve as close to natural light as possible over the cutting bench with a 270 degree light encircling the customer.

Conscious of the hours that hairdressers spend standing daily, we chose a timber floor that would be softer under their feet.

An ultra-low VOC acoustic ceiling, made from natural cellulose fibres with 80% recycled content, was selected for this active and noisy central zone.

Nestled at the rear of the salon is a small and cosy wash room. Inspired by the sauna experience, the wash room’s walls and ceiling are timber-lined. A dim LED strip light around the ceiling edge softens the room and provides a calming space for customers to wind down and put their feet up.

A salon with a simple material palette designed not only for functionality, but also to nurture their loyal customer base.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Zucci Salon stands. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture.‍
