The refurbishment works for the ‘Family Centre’ is a predominately internal with some minor external works to improve the heritage buildings accessibility & address. To become a key piece of community infrastructure for the area, the 220sqm refurbishment for the City of Port Philip comprises: a shaken its image of a quaint, exotic and mysterious land. The Victorian shell was stripped of 100 years of renovations, down to its multipurpose space, maternal health consultation rooms, office spaces, toy library, & storage spaces for the adjacent Clarendon Childcare Centre. The 1906 former Victorian era school has been reimagined into a family and maternal child health care centre. The central idea for this project was of community connection, of inviting new families into the building through an effortless internal “laneway” which delicately cuts through the existing building stock and resolves universal pram access with elegant bluestone paving past an internal “streetscape” holding the entry doors to the consulting rooms and toy library.
